Lucky Strike cigarettes The brand Lucky Strike was firstly shown to people as cut-plug chewing tobacco in 1871 by R.A. Patterson of Richmond, Virginia. Only after that it was introduced as a trademark of cigarettes. After R.A. Patterson was bought by the American Tobacco Company (ATC), these cigarettes were thought to be an answer to R. J. Reynolds' Camel. In 1917 the company created a new method of manufacturing and preparing the tobacco for usage and soon after that the brand acquired a new slogan "It's Toasted". That means that tobacco is toasted rather than sun-dried, which, as people believed, made these cigarettes more desirable and demanded. From the late 1920th, the brand Lucky Strike changed its targeted clients to women, offering them a new slogan "Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet." During the first year after this advertising campaign was held, sales increased by about 300%. Lucky Strike cigarettes have a rich history of sponsorships. They sponsored different radio and TV shows, Hit Parades, etc. But this activity wasn’t the only reason of their fame. The main goal of the manufacturers was a quality of products, so Lucky Strike contained only the highest-quality tobacco, which could offer the best flavor for smokers. In 1942 a specific characteristic of the brand – a dark green pack – was changed to the white one. The public promotion said "Lucky Strike Green has gone to war". This modification was explained by the high necessity of the copper (which gave that green color) at the War. And this step was successful, as most women didn’t like that green design of their cigarettes. So, the World War II helped to promote cigarettes all over the world. In 1945 a new slogan was created "Lucky Strike means fine tobacco". Since that time, the package design of the cigarettes have changed several times, introducing more and more new variants of smokes. But the quality of tobacco remained unchanged – the best-quality tobacco for successful and self-confident people.
